LOCATION
Crans-sur-Sierre is located in the Haut Valais, the driest region of Switzerland. Perched on a spacious sunny plateau among woods, grassland and small lakes. This is what Fodor's guide to Switzerland has to say on the region around our property: livingroom

"Extending along the valley of the upper Rhône from Lac Léman to the river's source, the scenic canton of Valais (Wallis in German) is one of the mots magnificient regions in Europe. The river valley itself is roughly L-shaped, with the angle resting on the town of Martigny, where the Val d'Entremont branches off to lead to the Grand Saint Bernard Pass. It is the right, or longer, leg of the 'L' that is the most characteristic and imposing part of the region."

Crans-Montana is 118 miles from the Geneva airport, where twice an hour you can catch trains to Brig, which stop at Sion and Sierre. Buses run regularly from Sion to Crans. The one-way fare is about $7.64 at the rate of 1.4 Swiss francs to the dollar. By car, the drive from Geneva is about two hours.

From Paris: Take the TGV to Lausanne, then a regular train from Lausanne (4.5 hours total travel time).
