PARIS HOTLIST

Nouvelles Images du Japon

The Forum des Images is showing the newest animation films and digital movies from Japan, like Princess Arete, Pompoko or Laputa, the castle in the sky, three masterpieces. Not the Disney type but remarkable nonetheless.

Until December 23. Forum des Images. Porte St.-Eustache, Forum des Halles. 75001. 01 44 76 62 00. www.forumdesimages.net

Jean Nouvel

The enfant terrible of French architecture who is building the new museum dedicated to African art, near the Eiffel tower, and who has designed the Cartier Foundation as well as the Institut du monde Arabe, two of the capital's best buildings, among others, has a show of his own at the Pompidou center. Visitors can view Nouvel's work thanks to huge slide shows displays.

Until March 4. Centre Georges Pompidou. 75004. 01 44 78 12 33

Les peintres du silence

This is a really wonderful exhibition of great Belgian painters who should be better known. They share that sense of melancholy instilled by that peculiar light in that part of the Old Continent. Between symbolism and naturalism, they paint at a time in between day and night, when the earth "drinks" the light.

Until Feb 24. Centre culturel Wallonie-Bruxelles. 127, rue St.-Martin. 75004. 01 53 01 96 96.

Josef Beuys

Multiples of Beuys's work is not very often shown in galleries. This is an opportunity to go and see his wonderfully bizarre and provocative art, like a plastic bag with margarine and white chocolate inside.

Until December 22. Galerie Tendances. 105, rue de Quincampoix. 75003. 01 42 78 61 79

Trix

An amazing circus troop from Sweden made up of three troops: one circus, one experimental theater troop and one rock band blending world music and violins. There is everything - clowns as well as acrobats. Really original.

Until Dec. 30 Grande Halle de la Villette. 01 40 03 75 75.
