Paris Photo

The 4 year old international photo fair held under the Louvre, has become one of the most interesting events for photography lovers, with 97 galleries from as far as South Africa and Hungary. This year, Paris Photo is showing the prints from the Vivendi-Universal collection dedicated to urban life in America from the 19th century to today.

Hélices & Délices

For the last three years, this little restaurant near the Sorbonne and the mecca of mountain climbers (Au Vieux Campeurs) has been nourishing both the body and the mind. Its evenings of good food, lectures and readings have been attracting a growing crowd of habitués. Thursday, November 22, the theme of the evening, held in the beautiful stone cellar of the restaurant will be: "Fascination of Europe for the Orient since the Middle Ages." The promoters of the Batofar call it "lascivious electro-house". Sounds good. This time the DJ is a woman, despite her name, Lieutenant Ripley. Sunday, November 18. 4Pm-10PM.

Ze Kitchen Galerie

Despite its name, this brand new restaurant (it opened on October 1), is actually a very good bistro serving innovative cuisine. Wonderful soups, pasta, raw marinated fish, delicious desserts. Nice contemporary art on the walls and Philippe Starck silverware. 148F and 168F lunch menu. 250 ˆ la carte, in the evening.

Tous Assis pour Vitra

Just 15 minutes from the border city of Mulhouse, in Weil am Rhein (Germany), sits the "pantheon of chairs": the Vitra factory (designed by Frank Gehry) which has been manufacturing most of the world's great chairs -from Eames to Gehry and Bertoia. Between 1987 and 1997, photographer Christian Coign asked over 150 celebrities - Miles Davis, Audrey Hepburn, Ringo Starr, Phil Collins, architect Philip Johnson, Jean-Luc Godard, to sit for him in their favorite Vitra chair. This is a good excuse to visit the Jean Nouvel designed Musée de la Publicité, one of the most fun institutions in the capital.

En cabane avec Laurent Millet

Laurent Millet has been photographing fragile cabins erected on beaches in Portugal and in the Bordeaux area, where he lives. These cabins are not built to be lived in. They are just fantasies, places inhabited only by dreams. Until Dec 15.
